Training
Jess is an accredited member of the BACP and has a PGDip in psychodynamic counselling. Jess has studied additional therapy frameworks as part of her professional development including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Jess is able to draw from multiple therapy practices to suit the needs of each client. Jess is experienced working with clients who have a wide range of issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, depression, loss, and health concerns.
Alongside her private practice, Jess also works as a volunteer counsellor for the charity Macmillan, working with clients impacted by cancer, including patients and family members. Jess works with these individuals to help them process their experience, allowing them space to talk about their feelings and fears, when they may be told by others that they ‘should’ be feeling better.
Jess is committed to a high standard of professional therapeutic practice and as such understands the importance of offering an empathic, confidential and safe space for clients and works within the BACP ethical framework. Jess also undertakes regular professional training as she is passionate about her continued development as a practitioner.
Approach
People can often feel tangled up, stuck and unsure about how to move forward. Many people can find daily life difficult and suffer with anxiety, stress, loneliness, self-esteem issues and other concerns. Sometimes the cause of pain can be confusing and unclear, and people may not understand why they are feeling that way. Often we can fear judgement from others, or worry we are a burden, or are told we have no reason to be feeling a certain way. Others around us may be well meaning but it can sometimes be hard to open up, worrying what others may think. Sometimes we don't have anyone to speak to. All of this can leave people feeling isolated. Jess offers a non-judgemental space that allows clients to explore their feelings.
Jess believes the therapeutic space to be one of self-discovery, and therefore supports clients in understanding their inner psychological map, guiding them safely along their journey, enabling clients to make their own choices and thus empowering them to face future experiences and find the answers that are right for them.
Jess works psychodynamically, which means looking at a person's whole life experience with them and allowing all thoughts and feelings to be heard and respected to gain insight. Jess focuses on the relationship that is created between the therapist and client and works with clients to help them find the resources within themselves to move forwards. It is a collaborative experience based on the relationship between an individual and their therapist.
