Training

Kerrith trained at Goldsmiths in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She also completed training at Chichester University in Humanistic counselling.  She was trained in Polyvagal theory by Deb Dana and uses this in her sessions where appropriate to help clients map, navigate and begin to control their emotional states.

Approach

Kerrith believes in facilitating change and empowering clients to explore their issues, identify patterns, and implement positive changes. Her guidance can facilitate your growth and transformation but the change is always led by the client. Effective communication is the ability to listen actively and communicate clearly to ensure that clients feel heard and understood. Effective communication is fundamental to counselling success.
Kerrith has regular supervision with an experienced supervisor which helps her monitor her own emotions and biases and remain objective during counselling sessions and guide clients effectively. Kerrith ensures she is continuously learning. She stays informed about the latest research and adapts her methods accordingly.

Relationship issues and loneliness

Relationships can be hard to navigate but counselling can significantly enhance your ability to build effective relationships by helping you recognise and break free of old patterns. Whether it’s with family, friends, or colleagues, understanding these patterns allows you to create healthier dynamics. Kerrith can help you develop enhanced self-awareness by helping you to identify your triggers and understand your emotional responses. This awareness will help you manage situations more constructively, avoid unnecessary conflicts and build nourishing relationships.

Kerrith’s ability to understand and share the feelings of others allows her to connect deeply in a way that fosters trust and open communication, which is crucial for relationship counselling. She can work with you to grow communication skills to foster understanding and empathy. Productive conversations happen when both parties actively listen and express their needs.

Anxiety & depression

Kerrith listens with genuine warmth to her clients, creating a safe space for people experiencing anxiety and/or depression to express difficult feelings without judgment. Her empathy helps build trust and rapport with clients. Kerrith’s practice is values-based, meaning she will always consider ethical and intersectional dimensions in her work.  Kerrith starts with the understanding that the client is the expert on themselves, and her job is to help draw this knowledge out. It is this relational approach that leads to positive outcomes, because when therapy works it is the relationship that cures. Kerrith is skilled at building trust so you can feel secure that whatever you bring to therapy will be safely held as you begin to explore it together.

Kerrith uses evidence-based techniques and relaxation methods and will apply the most suitable strategies, tailored to each client’s needs. She has a holistic approach, recognising that mental health involves more than just the mind and will help you explore the healthy habits that help well-being. She will work with you with persistence and patience: recovery takes time. She has an absolute commitment to supporting clients through setbacks and celebrating their progress.

Repeating patterns of behaviour

Repetition compulsion is the unconscious desire to reenact earlier trauma, which can negatively impact mental well-being. But therapy can help break this pattern. Kerrith will guide you to understand the unconscious forces at play in your decision-making. She is trained to help you explore past traumatic experiences to identify why you might reenact certain behaviours. By understanding these unconscious forces, you gain insight into your patterns, and this insight will help you break free of them.

Kerrith also uses mindfulness-based approaches and techniques to address underlying triggers. These promote self-awareness, reduce stress, and empower you to make conscious choices. She is trained to use polyvagal work to help clients understand their emotional states and begin to control how they move between them. Therapy provides tools to transform repetitive behaviours and promote healing.
