Training
Tamsin is a Person Centred Counsellor and accredited member of the BACP. After finishing her training at Brighton University in 2010 Tamsin built experience working in clinics and at schools across Brighton and Hove. In 2017 Tamsin moved to New York for 5 years where she developed her Private Practice.
She enjoys taking part in further specialised training and short courses. Over the years she has studied trauma, sexualised violence, eating disorders, TA, mindfulness, amongst other courses. She now runs her practice from her clinic in central Hove, as well as offering online sessions to those who prefer to work in this way.
Approach
Tamsin believes that therapy is most successful when the relationship between her and the client is central, therefore you will find that she is instantly warm and open, her style is chatty and relaxed. The Person Centred approach allows the client to lead the therapy in the direction that feels right to them. You will never be pushed to explore issues or concerns that you don’t feel ready to unearth. Her gentle approach allows you to feel heard and valued in a safe space. Tamsin has completed an array of CPD (continuing professional development) short courses in specific issues and different therapeutic approaches, so has an understanding of other ways of working, such as TA, mindfulness, focusing and EMDR.
PMDD and hormone related issues
Women suffering from PMDD understand how this condition can affect every aspect of life. It can at times be impossible to work, relationships can be damaged and sufferers can battle with suicidal ideation. What can make this condition even more confusing and difficult to manage is the speed at which symptoms can come and go. It can be challenging to track and control. Tamsin will explore what is happening with you both physically and emotionally to understand what can be done to help the onslaught of symptoms, and how you can prepare and help yourself when the bad days hit. It can be extremely helpful to track your cycle in order to make sure you are able to manage your schedule and routine. Sharing this information with loved ones and having a wellness tool box can be useful for some people. Discovering patterns and symptom relief allows women with this condition to regain a sense of control over their life.
Anxiety
As a person centred counsellor Tamsin is interested in your unique experiences. Anxiety can look and feel differently for each individual. Exploring the areas of life that feel challenging for you, she will help you hear your own inner wisdom. Discovering what feels okay or uncomfortable for you will allow you to discover what you are able to do to help you move through the world with greater ease. Anxiety is a debilitating condition. Exploring how it affects you will allow you to gain a better insight into yourself and what it is you need in order to gain confidence and happiness. Drawing on attachment theory she will help you explore your inner narrative. By doing this you can experience shifts in perspective that will allow you to challenge some of your deep set, inner beliefs.
Sexual abuse and violence
Tamsin has gained much experience working with survivors of sexual abuse and violence. She works from a trauma informed perspective and is familiar with the issues and behaviour that result from a PTSD or CPTSD diagnosis.
When we have experienced sexual abuse or/and violence our sense of safety in the world can be destroyed. Survivors can be left with feelings of shame and guilt. Often turning inward and struggling with aspects of their intimate relationships. Understanding the nature of trauma and how it can affect our sense of self and our behaviour is central to the counselling process. Tamsin will move at your pace and ensure you feel safe before inviting you to explore your emotions and experiences.
